Heart of a Mother
ByRuth Schmierer, mother of two adult daughters and many spiritual children, celebrates with you the many rewards due the heart of a mother.
Privileged, challenged and rewarded!
I believe that the heart of a mother develops in every girl, every woman. She can live with divine purpose, blessed by God. Whether or not she has natural children, she expresses qualities of a pioneer, leader, teacher, mentor and coach—strengthening the very fabric and future of our society.
Proverbs 1:8 encourages, “My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother.”
God’s Word mentions more than once the law of your mother. Consider the Courts of Law. Above them stands a woman. Let’s call her a mother. She is holding scales, seeking to execute justice in every case brought before her. She judges objectively, considering each petition on its own merit. However, she also delivers justice subject to the moral code of her nation.
Years ago, I asked the Lord what He wanted me to do in life. The answer came simply. Micah 6:8 ‘Do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.’ Today, this has become known as The Micah Challenge.
It is our privilege as women to take up this challenge, to passionately execute justice in whatever we do, wherever our cause in life takes us. As we raise our children and others given into our care, to love mercy will carry us through the inevitably challenging process of moulding their lives. Walking humbly with our God will cause the Spirit of Christ to fill us with wisdom for every situation.
In a restless world, I believe that the future of generations, natural and spiritual, is dependent upon us, as women, taking positive and joyful action with the heart of a mother.
